Satfish’s altimetry layer displays anomalies in the sea surface height. The main ocean current found offshore are caused by eddies and fronts that can be seen as “bubbles” in maps of sea surface height. Commercial and tournament fishermen use altimetry as a tool to track these bubbles, or eddies, helping them to predict where a front observed in sea surface temperature and chlorophyll will move in the days to come. This puts them on the true leading edge of fish such as swordfish, marlin and tuna before everyone else.
