Chris Morris, also known as “Crustacean Chris,” is a licensed captain, blue-water tactician, offshore fishing strategist, and lure designer. Based in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Chris spends his time fishing and studying the Gulf Stream waters off North Carolina and South Carolina, with a special passion for wahoo and other bluewater pelagic species.
Chris uses SatFish to help plan offshore trips, evaluate changing water conditions, and make better decisions before leaving the dock. By studying sea surface temperature, chlorophyll, water color, current movement, structure, and productive edges, he uses SatFish to narrow down where fish are most likely to be found and how to approach a trip with confidence.
Through his Fish with a Pro program, Chris works directly with anglers on their own boats, teaching them how to use SatFish and other offshore tools to plan trips, read water, set trolling spreads, and improve their overall fishing execution. His goal is to help boat owners and crews become more confident, capable, and successful offshore fishermen.
Chris is also the creator of the custom “Mr. X” lure, which produced the world-record mahi during the 2024 Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. That achievement reflects his hands-on approach to lure design, offshore presentations, and understanding how pelagic fish respond in real Gulf Stream conditions.
As a SatFish Ambassador, Chris enjoys sharing how satellite imagery and oceanographic tools can help everyday anglers make smarter offshore decisions. Whether he is planning his own trips, coaching anglers through Fish with a Pro, or sharing fishing knowledge online, Chris is passionate about helping people understand the water better and fish with more confidence.

“SatFish gives me a clearer picture of what’s happening offshore before I ever leave the dock. I use it to study temperature breaks, water color, currents, and structure so I can make smarter decisions and help other anglers understand why fish are likely to be in certain areas. It’s one of the most useful tools I have for planning Gulf Stream trips.”

- Cloudy Day Protocol: Fishing Kinetic Boundaries When the Imagery Is CompromisedThere’s a certain kind of quiet that settles in when you open your satellite layers and see nothing but cloud cover stretched across the Gulf Stream. No clean chlorophyll break. No glowing temperature edge. Just white. For many anglers, that’s where confidence drops. But here’s the reality: cloud cover doesn’t shut the ocean down. It… READ MORE
- Winter Wahooing with SatFish: How to Find the Gulf Stream’s Hidden Hotspots off North CarolinaWinter on the North Carolina coast often means cold air, short days, and fewer boats at the dock. But offshore, the story is very different. Out in the Gulf Stream, the water is still warm, active, and absolutely capable of producing wahoo all winter long. The challenge isn’t whether the fish are there — it’s… READ MORE
